About the Venue

The Afrasiyab Museum of the History of Samarkand is a historical and archaeological museum located beside the ancient Afrasiyab settlement, one of the earliest centres of Samarkand. Established in 1970, the museum is dedicated to the city's centuries-old history, culture, art and important role along the Great Silk Road. Its collection features remarkable archaeological discoveries from excavations at the ancient settlement, including pottery, coins, weapons, household objects and examples of decorative art.

One of the museum’s most valuable highlights is the famous 7th-century wall paintings known as the Hall of Ambassadors. These remarkable murals depict historical scenes, diplomatic missions and representatives of different peoples, reflecting the international connections of ancient Samarkand. The exhibitions offer visitors an opportunity to explore Sogdian civilization, ancient traditions, craftsmanship and the region’s rich cultural heritage. The Afrasiyab Museum is one of Samarkand’s significant historical attractions and an ideal destination for anyone interested in discovering the origins of this ancient city.
