ABOUT THE VENUE

The Museum of the History of Samarkand and the City of Afrosiab is a historical and cultural museum located near the ancient Afrosiab archaeological site in Samarkand. Established in 1970, the museum explores the city’s long history, rich cultural heritage, and important role along the Great Silk Road.

The museum’s collection includes archaeological discoveries such as ancient pottery, coins, weapons, figurines, and other artefacts that reveal everyday life in ancient Samarkand. One of its most remarkable highlights is the famous 7th-century wall paintings from the Hall of Ambassadors, which illustrate Sogdian culture and its historical connections with other civilizations.

The Museum of the History of Samarkand and the City of Afrosiab offers visitors an opportunity to discover the ancient past, explore archaeological treasures, and gain a deeper understanding of Samarkand’s remarkable cultural heritage.
