About the Venue

The State Museum of the History of Culture of Uzbekistan is one of the oldest and largest museums in the country, located on Mirzo Ulugbek Street in Samarkand. Its history dates back to 1896, when the first museum collection was established in the city. Today, the museum is part of the Samarkand State Museum-Reserve and introduces visitors to the centuries-old history, culture and artistic heritage of Uzbekistan. Its collections include remarkable archaeological discoveries, decorative and applied arts, traditional costumes, jewellery and historical documents.

The museum’s exhibition halls explore various aspects of the country’s cultural heritage, including the development of writing in Central Asia, the history of pottery and metalworking, traditional embroidery, jewellery-making and fine arts. Special attention is also given to the era of Amir Timur and the craftsmanship traditions of different regions of Uzbekistan.
