In New Uzbekistan, the study and promotion of the rich scientific and spiritual heritage of our great ancestors have been elevated to the level of state policy. One of the key projects implemented in this direction is the Imam Bukhari Innovative Museum. This museum serves to present to the wider public the life, scholarly activity, and invaluable legacy of the great hadith scholar Imam Bukhari through modern information technologies.
The idea of establishing the museum was put forward by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, during his visit to the Samarkand region in August 2022. The main goal of the project is to educate the younger generation in the spirit of national and religious values, to deeply study the legacy of Imam Bukhari, and to widely promote its significance.
The museum’s exhibitions are organized using modern interactive methods, allowing visitors to gain a comprehensive understanding of the era in which Imam Bukhari lived, as well as his life and scholarly journey.
The museum consists of 9 thematic pavilions covering the following areas: “Prophethood and the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)”, “Hadith”, “The Life and Scholarly Activity of Imam Bukhari”, “Imam Bukhari — A Great Phenomenon”, “The Virtues of Imam Bukhari”, “Descendants of Imam Bukhari”, “Al-Jami‘ as-Sahih” — the second written source of Islam, and “The Contemporary Significance of Imam Bukhari’s Legacy”.
In particular, the work “Al-Jami‘ as-Sahih”, recognized as one of the most authentic sources in Islam after the Holy Qur’an, holds special importance. The museum presents information about its content, translations, and copies preserved in libraries around the world.
Another important feature of the museum is the use of interactive games (including an innovative “flying carpet” for children) and modern technologies that increase visitors’ engagement, especially among young people. These solutions enliven the museum environment and make the educational process more engaging and effective. As a result, visitors—especially the youth—gain a deeper understanding of Imam Bukhari’s idea: “There is no salvation except through knowledge.”
