Till Brönner is Germany’s leading jazz trumpeter. While he is known for his outstanding virtuosity, he is also referred to as a ‘German Chet Baker’. Brönner studied jazz trumpet at the College of Music, Cologne. Among his prominent teachers are Prof. Malte Burba and the American jazz trumpeter Bobby Shew. His first album, Generations of Jazz, with Ray Brown, Jeff Hamilton, Frank Chastenier and Grégoire Peters, was released in 1993. Immediately it won the ‘Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik’ (German Records Criticism Award). From then on he played with international greats such as Dave Brubeck, Tony Bennett, Mark Murphy, James Moody, Monty Alexander, Nils Landgren as well as Klaus Doldinger and Joe Sample.
Brönner also composed and produced the album 17 Millimeter for Hildegard Knef in 1999, and he wrote soundtracks for documentaries like ‘Jazz Seen’ about the jazz and fashion photographer William Claxton or ‘Höllentour’ by Pepe Danquart. Further, he produced two highly praised albums of the American jazz singer Mark Murphy. This album also led to much international interest in his work. Among Brönner’s eighteen studio albums eleven are released on the legendary Universal-Label ‘Verve’. His CDs which are mostly recorded in Los Angeles have repeatedly reached gold status. His current album, The Good Life, was released on SONY in September 2016.
In 2009 Brönner contributed all trumpet parts to the cult CD Touch Yello by the famous Suisse electronic music duo ‘Yello’. In the same year Brönner was appointed professor at the College of Music Carl Maria von Weber in Dresden. Together with Prof. Malte Burba he has been teaching jazz trumpet in Dresden since winter semester 2009/10.
Dieter Ilg, upright bass player, born in 1961 in Offenburg/Germany, studied at “Hochschule für Musik” in Freiburg under Prof. Wolfgang Stert and at “Manhattan School of Music” in New York. Furthermore, he received lessons by renowned bassists Eddie Gomez, Ron McClure, Rufus Reid and Ron Carter. From 1989-1991 Dieter Ilg replaced Ron Carter as a permanent member of the Randy Brecker Quintet. For years, he also played with Mangelsdorff / Dauner Quintet and French-Vietnamese guitarist Nguyên Lê. From the mid-1990s on, he began to establish folk songs as jazz works and found enthusiastic supporters in Wolfgang Muthspiel and Steve Argüelles. In 2001 Dieter founded his own label fullfat. The Baden-Wuerttemberg Jazz winner (1988) poured his musical creativity into countless formations, such as the Norwegian singer Rebekka Bakken, Tunisian singer and oud player Dhafer Youssef and his pals Till Brönner and Thomas Quasthoff. With his award-winning trio, Dieter Ilg was invited to major festivals and renowned concert halls. Since 1995 he is a lecturer for jazz upright bass at “Freiburg University of Music” and teaches master classes worldwide. In the years 2011, 2014 and 2016 he was awarded the Echo Jazz in the category "Best Bassist - national". Since 2011 Dieter Ilg’s material is released by award-winning ACT music label,. After the albums "Otello", "Parsifal" and "My Beethoven", he recently (2017) gave us "B-A-C-H": Dieter’s timeless arrangements of Johann Sebastian Bach´s compositions in the so-called "classic piano trio in jazz" setting. Together with Till Brönner their duo-program “Nightfall” was published 2018, gaining big success. Beginning of 2022 the bassman did his newest thing: “Dedication”, a solo bass feature was unhanded with overwhelming press reactions.
